Henry Ford, AI, and the New Way of Learning

INTELIGENCIA ARTIFICIAL

If I ask you, tell me quickly: “Who was the person who invented the first car?”

Most people would probably say Henry Ford, but he wasn’t the one who invented the first car.

It was really Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler who were among the pioneers.

But Henry Ford was the person who produced cars more efficiently with his famous assembly line. He went from producing 10 or 20 cars per day to around 1,000, and later thousands more during the best moments of the company.

And what is the relationship between Henry Ford, Artificial Intelligence and you?

Henry Ford worked in different companies. He started and failed two companies before his big success. Only after that, when he was around 40 years old, did he have his first successful car.

But his best moment came when he improved the way cars were built. That was the real jump: from 20 cars per day to 1,000, and then to thousands.

At that time, the noise of a new kind of transportation was already in the air. He was not the only person building cars. Others had started before him.

But with patience, discovery, analysis and focus, he jumped to the hall of fame.

In my own process of learning AI, I have lived through different moments.

I am an old developer who has always worked with the same or similar tools. Maybe different platforms, different databases, different technologies, but the changes were usually transitional. You could continue evolving if you followed some techniques to learn.

Because, even if we say that we study technology, the technique of learning was similar to many other things.

But now, it feels like nothing works exactly as before.

The noise around AI is impressive. Every day we have news, tools, ideas, models, features, everything. And that can make you feel afraid.

And it is understandable.

I lived that feeling when I started with AI more than three years ago. I had always worked with deterministic tools. But now everything is different.

So we need to find new techniques, new methodologies and new ways to understand this world.

And this is something I will be talking about in the next days.

I want you to feel a little like Henry Ford at the beginning of a new concept of yourself.

Someone who can reinvent the way they work.

Someone who can understand this new machine.

Someone who can use AI efficiently.

No matter your age.
You can understand how to use AI.
And you must do it.

I also recorded a Spanish video version of this reflection, where I explain the idea in a more conversational way. You can watch it here:
